The SLAPP BACK Fund invites all citizens who are able to donate funds for legal assistance to young activist Nora Sejdijaj from Belgrade

During the protest in defense of the Old Sava Bridge held on November 20 last year, police officers isolated, surrounded, and detained a group of young activists who were present to prevent the unlawful demolition of this structure.

Among those detained was 18-year-old Nora Sejdijaj, an activist from Belgrade, against whom the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belgrade has since filed a request with the Misdemeanor Court to initiate misdemeanor proceedings. The request alleges that she “disturbed public order and peace by insulting police officers.”

During the hours-long detention at the police station on Majke Jevrosime Street, Nora Sejdijaj, like the other detained demonstrators, had her phone confiscated. She was then presented with a document to sign, which she did in a state of fear and distress over losing her freedom—without knowing its exact content or receiving a signed copy from the authorities. Four activists were released after several hours with the official request to initiate misdemeanor proceedings.

While all other requests have since been withdrawn, Nora Sejdijaj is the only one who has received an official summons to appear in person before the Misdemeanor Court for questioning on Thursday, February 27. In response, the SLAPP BACK Fund has decided to support this young activist and, with the help of the public, provide her with the necessary funds to cover legal expenses during the court proceedings.

Nora Sejdijaj has already stated that she does not feel guilty, that she will not accept the financial penalty imposed in this case, and that she will use all legal means available to prove her innocence and defend her constitutionally and legally guaranteed rights to freedom of speech and movement.

Together with Nora, we will use all legal mechanisms to fight for her right to protest against the illegitimate collusion between the authorities and global corporate interests behind the decision to remove the Old Sava Bridge and replace it with a new one.

We invite you to support Nora Sejdijaj by making individual donations through the following channels:
