At the event in the KROKODIL Center, on Tuesday, July 25th, starting at 6:30 p.m., we will present the 125th guest of KROKODIL’s House for Writers, translator Valentina Marconi, who is staying in Belgrade during the month of July, and working on the translation of Dejan Atanacković’s novel Lusitania into Italian. During the talk, in which the author will also take part, we will discuss, among other things, the challenges faced during the work on the translation of Lusitania in terms of finding the best solutions, but also the cultural influences that direct and influence the work on the text both when it comes to writing and translating. The conversation will be moderated by Milena Berić and Stefana Pekez.

Valentina Marconi is an award-winning literary translator working with Italian, English and BCMS. She has translated several novels and popular science books from English and BCMS into Italian and received two awards for the translation of children’s books. She also translates for the stage and is a part of a collective of theatre translators. Collaboration and multidisciplinarity occupy a prominent space in Valentina’s translation practice. She loves taking part in projects bringing translation to the public stage, and facilitates translation workshops for primary school children. Alongside her job as a translator, she is also a scientist currently working towards a PhD at the Zoological Society of London.

Valentina Marconi is staying in KROKODIL’s House for Writers within the framework of the Translation in Motion project.

Translation in Motion is an international initiative launched in February 2021 by a cluster of translation centres from eight European countries from the Western Balkans and EU-member states. Translation in Motion’s ambition is to push for and aid the increase of the number, diversity and quality of literary works available to readers across Europe.
