Without us, the world stops! WORKERS – PEASANT WOMEN – STUDENTS
Imagine a day where all women – peasants, students, professors, workers at work and at home – completely stopped their unpaid and underpaid work. It’s clear that everything and the world would really come to a halt!
In Serbia, labor rights have been deteriorating for years, especially for women. Women are teachers, cashiers, nurses, textile workers, scientists, and experts, yet they are rarely in leading positions. From birth, we are expected to be caregivers, and we perform household chores without compensation. If social services were fully operational and this work was equally distributed, none of us would have to burn out.
And while we take to the streets, where freedom has been fought for months, we witness new attacks on girls, the peak of structural violence against those who are continually stripped of social power. In student protests, female students, who already face various forms of sexual harassment, are the most exposed.
They try to confine our role to the private sphere, telling us fairy tales about the traditional family. But we are not just mothers and wives – our ancestors defeated fascism, and today we lead workers’, environmental, and pacifist struggles.
