Maltese translator Kat Storace will be staying in Belgrade from February 3 to 17 as the 140th guest of the KROKODIL’s House for Writers. Her residency is part of the Ulysses’ Shelter project.

We kindly invite you to join us at brunch with translator Kat Storace which will be held on Tuesday, February 11, at 1 PM at the KROKODIL Center, where local writers, translators, and publishers will have the opportunity to meet and talk with her. Some of the topics of discussion will include Maltese literature and the importance of authors writing in this language for the global literary scene. Kat Storace is publisher and literary translator from Malta. She is the co-founder of Praspar Press, a UK-based small press dedicated to publishing Maltese writing in English and in English translation. Her first full-length translation of short stories by Loranne Vella, what will it take for me to leave (Praspar Press, 2021), was shortlisted for the Society of Authors TA First Translation Prize. Her translations have appeared in Modern Poetry in Translation and The White Review. She is the recipient of a PEN Translates award for her English translation of Loranne Vella’s prizewinning novel Rokit, forthcoming from Praspar in 2025.

ULYSSES’ SHELTER: BUILDING WRITERS-IN-RESIDENCE NETWORK is the third phase of a project co-financed by the Creative Europe program of the European Commission. The residency network now includes seven European countries. The project and residency network are primarily aimed at young prose or poetry writers and literary translators. Residencies offer new opportunities to establish connections with other authors, translators, editors, publishers, and/or representatives of various literary organizations from Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Serbia, the UK, Malta, and the Czech Republic. The project is accompanied by a rich program of literary activities tailored to specific (local) target audiences.
