Brunch with Publishers with Simon Stranger

Brunch with Publishers with Simon Stranger

On Wednesday, November 27, in the welcoming atmosphere of the KROKODIL Center and accompanied by freshly prepared brunch, a meeting with Norwegian writer Simon Stranger, the 138th guest of KROKODIL’s Writers-in-Residence program, took place. Designed as an informal gathering with local publishers, the event unfolded in a relaxed yet engaging tone.

Representatives from publishing houses Blum, Laguna, IPC Media, Treći Trg, Kontrast, and Heliks participated in the brunch, with special contributions from Radoš Kosović, a translator from Norwegian and Danish. Simon Stranger introduced his work, including his most renowned novel, Keep Saying Their Names (Leksikon svetla i tame), as well as other projects like his series of children’s books. Through intriguing anecdotes about the inspiration for his stories and his process of selecting themes, Stranger offered a glimpse into his creative journey.

The event aimed to pave the way for the potential publication of Stranger’s works in Serbia. Publishers had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of his work, laying a solid foundation for future collaborations.

Simon Stranger, born in 1976, is the author of seven novels, three young adult novels, and eleven children’s books. His international breakthrough came in 2018 with the novel Keep Saying Their Names (Leksikon svetla i tame), which earned the prestigious Norwegian Booksellers’ Prize and was recognized as one of the 100 most important Norwegian novels of all time. Combining historical documentation with deeply personal narratives, the book explores universal questions of humanity. It has been translated into over 30 languages, solidifying Stranger’s global acclaim.

This gathering was just a prelude to the next event—a unique audio-visual presentation scheduled for Friday, November 29, at 7 PM at the KROKODIL Center. During this event, Stranger will present excerpts from Keep Saying Their Names, enriched with photographs, music, and video content.

We warmly invite you to join us and seize this opportunity to meet this extraordinary author and explore the world through his stories. See you at the KROKODIL Center!

Simon Stranger’s residency is supported by the Norwegian Embassy and NORLA.
