24 Jan Julia Brovarna – 131st KROKODIL’s Writer-in-Residence
Ukrainian poet and illustrator Julia Brovarna is KROKODIL’s Writer-in-Residence in the period from January until the end of March. She will present herself to the audience at the events that we will organize in the week of February 19 to 25, on the occasion of marking the double anniversary – 10 years since the annexation of Crimea and 2 years since the launch of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Julia Brovarna is a poet, writer, illustrator, and graphic designer. She was born in 1979 in Vinnytsia, Ukraine where she graduated from Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University, majoring in philology and social pedagogy. She has published three poetry books and is currently working on several literary and visual art projects, one of which is an essay on the existential roots of the Russian-Ukrainian war. She is a vice-president of the Association of Ukrainian Writers.
Julia Brovarna’s residency is realized within the framework of the Spaces of Resilience project.
Association KROKODIL, as an independent organization from Belgrade with literary, artistic and socio-political activities has decided to provide shelter and support to Ukrainian literary creators on top of other activities related to Ukraine. After the successful implementation of the first cycle of the emergency residency program called “Spaces of Freedom”, conducted from October 2022 to June 2023, we have decided to continue providing assistance to Ukrainian literary creators.
