19 Dec Spaces of Resilience: Welcoming Julia Brovarna and Dzvinka Matiiash as Writers-in-Residence
We have received a great number of high-quality applications and the Independent Commission that included Alla Tatarenko, Andriy Lyubka and Vladimir Arsenijevic had a hard task to select two authors-in-residence. The first selected author who will stay in KROKODIL’s Residency for Writers will be Julia Brovarna, poet, writer and performer. She will be in Belgrade from January to March 2024. After her, the second author in residence will be Dzvinka Matiiash, well-known Ukrainian writer and translator from Polish, Belarus and Russian. She will stay in KROKODIL Residency for Writers from April to June 2024.
Association KROKODIL has decided to provide shelter and support to Ukrainian literary creators on top of other activities related to Ukraine such as collecting humanitarian help for the Perinatal Center in Kharkiv and The Social Centre in Bliznuiki. After the successful writers-in-residence project Spaces of Freedom implemented from October 2022 to June 2023, with eight Ukrainian authors hosted during that period, we decided to proceed with supporting literary creators from Ukraine.
In November 2023, we launched an Open Call for Ukrainian literary creators- prose writers, poets, essayists, translators, editors, cultural journalists, comic book authors, theoreticians, columnists, singer-songwriters, rappers, spoken-words performers, etc. KROKODIL is actively focused on helping the citizens of Ukraine and on organizing various activities aimed at initiating changes in the dominant perception of the public regarding the Russian aggression on Ukraine. For these activities Association KROKODIL was awarded several times on local, regional and International levels.
This project was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Culture of Solidarity Fund powered by the European Cultural Foundation.
