Solidary and Rebellious: Protest March for Women’s Rights

Solidary and Rebellious: Protest March for Women’s Rights

This year, together with a large number of feminist organizations and individuals, on the streets of Belgrade we are organizing a March 8 protest march titled “Solidary and Rebellious! For labor rights, for justice, for peace!”. We would like to remind everyone that March 8 is the day when we rise and join the efforts and battles of all brave women who have been waging this struggle for 111 years in this region. Unfortunately the fight for women’s rights is still far from over. That is why this year we stand in solidarity with women living in social injustice, poverty, and violence.

We are taking to the streets, an important space of women’s struggle, in order to rebelliously point out the poor state of labor rights and the lack of justice for the oppressed in our society and in order to express solidarity with all disenfranchised workers, multiply marginalized women, displaced people and refugees.

The women of Serbia demand:

• that legal regulations and practice ensure working time of maximum 8 hours daily, fair and dignified wages and working conditions,

• that institutions adequately and timely address the problem of gender-based violence,

• and we call for peace and appeal to the state to provide support to the people of Ukraine.

The planned gathering for the procession is at 4pm in front of the Student Cultural Center (corner of Resavska and Kralja Milana streets); at 4:30pm the procession will start along the Kralja Milana street to the Republic Square, with an half-hour stop at the Republic Square, followed by a walk along the Francuska and Gundulićev venac streets to Dobračina 55 (Prostor Miljenko Dereta) where the march will end around 6pm followed by a social event.

We invite you to join the protest march for women’s rights on Tuesday, March 8, at 4pm in front of the Student Cultural Center in Belgrade, and the media to cover this event.

For labor rights, for justice, for peace!
