Milena Selimi, KROKODIL’S Writer-in-residence December guest, will take part in two events during her stay. On Monday, 6th December, at 7pm she will talk with Maja Vuković Biserko about her literary and translation work and contemporary Albanian literature, while on Thursday, 9th December, at 12am Milena Selimi will be holding a translation workshop primarily intended for Albanian language students.
Milena Selimi has a long career as a journalist, writer and playwriter, experience in media management. Editor responsible for the culture section in various editorial offices. She has been a correspondent, coordinator, moderator for various national and international organizations. Ms. Selimi has been part of the jury in many film festivals and also other ones in the fields of art and culture such as: TIFF, KULT awards, POETEKA festival, Balkan Media Magazine, etc.
She has been an active participant in different panels and workshops in the fields of journalism, dramaturgy and translation, such as: TRADUKI, “Writer-in-Residence-Program” in Split, Croatia, “First Translation Workshop”- in Sremski Karlovci – Novi Sad, “Translator-in- Residence-Program” in Sarajevo, Sofia Literature and Translation House in Sofia, “Fantasio” Festival in Trento, etc.
Ms. Selimi has been the translator of many novels in Albanian language of authors such as: Georgi Gospodinov, Nikola Madzirov, Alek Popov, Edo Popoviç, Milen Ruskov, Ognjen Spahiç, Lidija Dimkovska, Vladan Matijeviç, and plays written by Dejan Dukovski, Elin Rahnev, Tena Štivičić, Goran Stefanovski. She has also been a participant as a translator at the “Balkan Anthology” at the Goethe Institute in Sarajevo.
She is the author of 10 children’s plays, staged at the Metropol Theater in Tirana in the period 2010-2012, author of the book “Nata e nje gruaje ” and the volume of poetry “Muzgu binjak me ëndrrën”. The dramas by Goran Stefanovski and Tena Štivičić that she has translated have won Eurodrame 2019.
She has graduated from University of Tirana, Faculty of History and Philology with a degree in Albanian Language and Literature. After getting her degree, she has completed a 6 month specialization at the “Kliment Ohridski” University in Sofia, Bulgaria, in TV Journalism (Jan 1997- Jul 1997).
She is fluent in Bulgarian, Italian, Macedonian and Serbian.
Milena Selimi’s stay at KROKODIL’S Writer-in-residence is realized through the project READ. Regional Network for Cultural Diversity (READ) is a four-year EU funded regional cultural project implemented by Goethe-Institut Skopje together with the partner organizations: Center for Balkan Cooperation – Loja (North Macedonia), Instituti I Librit dhe i Promocionit (Albania), Kalem Culture Association (Turkey), Krokodil (Serbia), Qendra Multimedia (Kosovo). The project contributes to reconciliation and intercultural tolerance by opening new channels of communication from the independent cultural societies, offering them networking opportunities away from the political stage. The project aims to promote intercultural reading skills and democratic values through reading culture and the handling of supra-regional high-quality literary works.
