15 Nov CHARITY RACE – RUNNING AGAINST COVID VOL. 2
From the beginning of the summer of 2020, premature babies whose mothers are infected with the coronavirus are hospitalized in the Belgrade Institute of Neonatology. A large number of these mothers, hospitalized in Covid maternity wards throughout Serbia, are not able to provide milk for their babies for months after giving birth, nor to take them into arms. Within the activities of the Institute of Neonatology, the Human Milk Bank has an important role since it provides donor milk for children to whom their mothers’ milk is not available. In that way, they are provided with the healthiest and the most natural source of nutrition. This milk is pasteurized every two hours and served in special sterilized bottles intended for the smallest and most endangered babies… seven days a week, every day of the month. The existing sterilizer is over twenty years old and is serviced almost once a month. These services are extremely expensive and often take a very long time. Due to its age, this sterilizer reaches a temperature of only 80 degrees and its capacity is only 80 bottles, which is not enough in the existing epidemiological conditions. The situation is alarming.
On Sunday, November 28, at 10 am, we will mark the end of the running season with another charity race in the form of a training #runningagainstcovid ! While listening audio books we will run 7k, 15k and 21k in the neighborhoods of Dorćol and Novi Beograd and donate all the money from registration fees to the Institute of Neonatology for the purchase of a new sterilizer. The number of participants per category is limited to the 50 fastest registered runners. We have prepared symbolic prizes for the fastest runners in all three categories. We invite those who want to run with us remotely to also join the action! Remote participation is possible by running the length for which you have registered, at the location of your choice during the time of the race and sending us your photo with a medal and a screenshot of the route you have run. You will receive the start package shortly before the race at your home address, after registration and payment of the registration fee.
After the race, at 1 pm in the KROKODIL Center (Karađorđeva 43 / entrance from Male stepenice), where the start and finish of the race will be located, there will be a lecture aimed for high school students entitled Nutrition and supplementation and overall wellbeing which will be held by the professor Ivan Čurović. The lecture will be streamed via the YT channel @KrokodilEngagingWords after the event.
The recommended registration fee / donation for the race is 2000 dinars. Each runner will receive the start package that will include a T-shirt, a start number, a specially designed medal as well as a coupon for the pasta party scheduled for Saturday, November 27 from 12 to 2 pm. The package can be picked up at the KROKODIL Center on Friday, November 26, from 12 to 8 pm, as well as on Saturday, November 27, from 12 to 4 pm. Wearing masks indoors is mandatory as well as keeping a 2 meter distance at the start of the race. Runners in each category will start the race 15 minutes apart. The 21k race starts at 10 am, the 15k race at 10:15 am and the 7k race at 10:30 am. The registration link for the race can be found HERE.
