Come over for a cup of Fika! Brace yourselves and prepare to get acquainted with the Swedish coffee drinking tradition on Saturday, the 20th of March at 10am at the KROKODIL Center. As a little homage to the Swedish festival Midsommar, we will mark the Spring Equinox in good company and the authentic experience of Scandinavia.  

With cakes, beloved pre-Eurovision Melodifestivalen musical program and your favorite warm beverage, join us on an informal gathering to mark the first day of spring. Our guest of honor, Mr. Joachim Waern, the deputy of the ambassador, will talk first-hand about the culture of this Scandinavian country.

The event is free of charge and is supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Serbia. 

During its history, coffee was banned a few times in Sweden. However, it is believed, that not wanting to give up their favorite drink, some Swedes drank coffee in hiding, giving it a new secret name. By changing the syllables of the old Swedish word kaffi the new word fika was created – this ritual of drinking coffee has been preserved in this country until today.

In its modern form, fika is one of the most preferred social custom of Sweden. Gathering in the morning hours, It’s a daily habit of Swedes to enjoy socializing and chatting with coffee, cake, juice, tea, and lemonade 

Although fika is an ideal way to take a short break from responsibilities, this custom is well-grounded in the business culture as well. Almost every company has a fika break, and it isn’t rare for fikas to be drank at informal meetings with employees, partners or clients

During the month of March, the KROKODIL Center will be the central place of a new program entitled Sweden in Residence, which gathers Swedish literature, cuisine and culture in one space. The program consists of four different and unique events scheduled on four Saturdays in March. In addition, during the entire month, both in the KROKODIL Center and through Wolt and Donesi delivery apps, a specially created Eat&Read menu will be available, offering the tastes of traditional Swedish cuisine which are, even in Sweden, rare and offered only in a few selected restaurants.
