On Tuesday, October 13th starting at 7pm in the KROKODIL Center, we’re presenting you a discussion on the many current, non-literature related regional misuses of the author Ivo Andrić. 

The polemic “The dismantlement of Andrić: Ivo Andrić in the fire of worlds and the trenches of interpretation” will be moderated by Mirjana Stošić, professor at the Faculty of Media and Communications. The theme of this event comes from Michael Martens’ book “In the Fire of Worlds: Ivo Andrić, a European Life” (original title: “Im Brand der Welten: Ivo Andrić, ein europäisches Leben”, Zsolnay-Verlag: 2019), which provoked tumultuous and contradictory reactions across the region. 

The author of the biography himself, Michael Martens, will be joining us from Vienna over Zoom, to talk with us about the way we perceive Andrić. Joining us from Split, our second guest is Nebojša Lujanović, author of the yet unpublished study of the nationalistic renditions of Andrić “In the Trenches of Interpretation – Strategies and Tragedies of Illegitimate Readings” (original title: “U rovovima interpretacija – strategije i tragedije nelegitimnog čitanja”).
