Svetislav Basara was born in 1953 in Bajina Bašta. He wrote and published more than twenty literary works, ranging from novels to collections of stories or essays. He is the winner of several national literary awards among which is also the NIN prize for the novel of the year in 2006 for Uspon i pad Parkinsonove bolesti. Some of his published works are: Napuklo ogledalo, Peking by Night, Kinesko pismo, Fama o biciklistima, Bumerang, Džon B. Malkovič, Kratkodnevnica, Looney Tunes, Mongolski bedeker (Nolit prize), Na Gralovom tragu, Na ivici, Sveta mast, Ukleta zemlja, Srce zemlje, Uspon i pad Parkinsonove bolesti, Izgubljen u samoposluzi, Dnevnik Marte Koen, Stradija, Fundamentalizam debiliteta etc. His plays have been staged in many theatres and his books translated to English, French, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Italian and Macedonian languages. In the period 2001 – 2005 he served as the ambassador of Serbia in Cyprus.
