Barbi Marković was born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1980. She studied German language and literature in Belgrade and Vienna. She works as translator, proofreader and editor. Her novel, Izlaženje, published in 2006, was conceived in a peculiar way. While translating the Thomas Bernhard novel Gehen she introduced her own characters and subject matter within original Bernhard’s sentences. This experimental novel was one of the nominees for the NIN literary prize in 2006 and was awarded with the Miloš Crnjanski prize. The novel Izlaženje was translated to German (Ausgehen) and published by the publishing house Suhrkamp.
