Balša Brković was born in Podgorica, Montenegro in 1966. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, Serbia. So far, he published five volumes of poetry, Konji jedu breskve (1985), Filip boje srebra (1991), Rt Svete Marije (1993), Contrapposto (1998) and Dvojenje (2001), the collection of stories Berlinski krug (2008) and two novels, Privatna galerija (2002) and Paranoja u Podgorici (2010). His novel Privatna galerija was proclaimed the cultural event of the year 2002 in Montenegro according to the poll executed by the weekly magazine Monitor. The same novel was awarded with the Serbian award Miroslavljevo Jevanđelje for the best fiction book of 2001-2003 in Serbia and Montenegro. Balša Brković is a publicist, theatre critic and he also often writes about the history and the ideas of anarchism. At the beginning of the 1990’s he belonged to the group of Montenegrin intellectuals who stood against the war and isolationist politics of the Montenegrin government of the time. Today he is the cultural editor and deputy editor-in-charge of the most influential and the best selling Montenegrin daily newspaper “Vijesti”.
